CallerCar is a not-for-profit workers cooperative. Our aims are to provide a reliable taxi service for our customers and give our drivers the chance to earn a decent living.
Everyone pays an equal share of the costs and gets equal access to the work.
We charge £20 per month for both hackney carriage and private hire vehicles.
Your subscription is for one vehicle for one month. You may add any number of licensed drivers who are insured to drive that vehicle for no additional cost.
Jobs that are paid for in-app are processed by Stripe. They typically charge 20p + 1.5% per transaction. This fee will be deducted from the fare. Full pricing details.
We try to keep our fees as low as possible. However, we might have to increase them in the future to cover increased costs.
Our fees will always be fair and proportionate.
The drivers app has a built-in taximeter and we currently use Hastings hackney tariffs for our entire fleet.
We regularly review our fare structure and may adjust our prices to take into account availability of cars and volume of bookings. e.g. we may offer cheaper off-peak fares to get more customers when there is a lack of work.
We don’t charge commission, you get to keep 100% of all fares and tips (minus any in-app payment processing fees).
Around 50% of our customers pay by card. We encourage all our drivers to have a card reader. We recommend Square. Their fees are 1.75% and collected fares can be paid into any UK bank account.
Cash only? Yes, you can still join CallerCar and operate as a cash only business. However, you’ll receive far fewer jobs as we’ll only send you bookings where the customer has specified a cash payment.
You’ll have to leave your existing company and remove their branding from your vehicle before accepting bookings from us. Licencing requires that PHV's are registered with only one operator at a time.
Work with us as a sub-contractor. You’ll get full access to our booking app, but will also be able to continue accepting your own direct bookings and have your own branding on your vehicle.
Drivers are free to accept or decline any job that is offered to them.
We also have procedures in place that prevent us from exceeding our fleet’s capacity and taking more bookings than we can cope with; meaning you’ll rarely be sent to a late job and have to deal with a moody customer.
The app is available to use 24hrs a day, 365 days a year.
There are no set shifts and you can work as little or as often as you want.
The monthly subscription is the same low price regardless of the number of hours worked.
We’d be delighted if you brought your existing customers over to us and got them to start using the app.
We also have various options that determine how bookings from specific customers are assigned. You could for instance restrict which drivers can do specific account jobs or have the system assign bookings made by your regular customers to your vehicle(s) first.
A direct booking is where a customer contacts a driver via phone, email or social media to arrange a booking.
Some drivers love them, some drivers hate them. It’s up to you whether you want to do them or not.
We’ll put all enquiries for airports/ long distance on the drivers section of our website. If two or more drivers want the job it will be assigned on a rotational basis; when you do a long distance job you go to the bottom of the list, jobs are offered to the driver nearest the top of the list.
We do not intend to tender for ESCC school contracts.
One of the biggest complaints we receive from customers is the difficulty hiring a taxi during school-run time. We think it’s better to have our cars available to our regular customers and leave the school runs to those companies that specialise in them.
